The Division of Business and Computer Information at NorthWest Arkansas Community College will host a symposium regarding cyber security from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 25. The activities are part of NWACC’s observance of National Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Individuals from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Alexis Information Systems, Arvest Bank,
and Walmart will be featured speakers.

All sessions will be in Peterson Auditorium of the Shewmaker Center for Global Business Development on the NWACC campus in Bentonville.

The schedule includes time, topic, and presenter as follows:
9 a.m. — EU Cookie Law and Website Compliance presented by Denise Brooks, owner
of Alexis Information Systems
10:30 a.m. — Leadership in InfoSec, presented by Shaki Prakash, technical expert in
cybersecurity for Walmart Stores Inc.
Noon — Cybercrime, presented by Jason Frankenberger, a special agent with the FBI
1:30 p.m. — Wireless Security, presented by Jordan Sallis, senior security engineer with
Arvest Bank.
3 p.m. — IoT (Internet of Things) Security, presented by Allen Courtright, technical
expert, InfoSec Rapid Response Team, Walmart.

Come join us in SC108 for Hackers Fighting Hunger.  Building the structure starts today and goes through tomorrow, 10/4.  Bring some canned goods and help us build our photo booth.

It is also the start of National Cyber Security Awareness Month.  We have incorporated this into our photo booth and will have flyers to hand out.

Talons has started collecting donations of non-perishable food items to help stock the NWACC Food pantry.  These items will be used in the We Can Box it Together competition and then given to the food pantry.  Talons won third place in last years competition with the Phishing Pond.  Please help us take first place this year by donating. Items can be left in SGBDC 1041.

Did you know, 92,000 people in NWA go to bed hungry (Arkansas hunger relief survey). Benton County ranks 2nd in the state for people living in poverty.The NWACC food Pantry was established in order to help students and employees at NWACC, who are in need. The NWACC Food Pantry has operated successfully on donations from generous employees and students. The NWACC Student Ambassadors host a fun and creative way to help stock the NWACC Food Pantry. We Can Box it Together is a food sculpture competition between NWACC departments, Student Clubs, Divisions, basically any NWACC group that wants to participate.

Talons is the computer security club for students on campus. The purpose of T.A.L.O.N.S. Group is to offer NWACC students interested in technology a unique environment to gain the knowledge essential to building safer digital worlds and successful careers in Network Security. T.A.L.O.N.S. will also engage the general student body and community with events and activities aimed at increasing the public’s knowledge on technology as well as its safe implementation and use.
